![]() I like RAWTherapee, and over the past month I have spent a lot of time using it because I need a Windows application to teach my college-age nephews how to process images.īoth darktable and RAWTherapee can be installed from Software Manager, but the version in the repositories is old. I use darktable for my work - I prefer it to RAWTherapee because it allows for selective editing and I prefer the way it handles Noise Reduction. I have also used Lightzone and UFRaw (both as a stand alone application and as a GIMP plugin), and I think dt and RT are the better, more mature applications. I have dt and RT quite a bit, and I find they are very capable RAW developers. I have not used Lightroom, so I do not know how (or if) it is superior to dt or RT. I suggest you also try darktable (dt) and RAWTherapee (RT) - both are superior to Canon DPP. Also, these programs are excruciatingly slow - it took nearly 20 minutes to export 10 RAW files to JPGs. The RAW developer and image editor functions are very basic while that makes them easy to learn to use, the user interface is so clumsy that makes it difficult to do anything quickly. Let me start by recommending you avoid Canon Digital Photo Professional. Mint 18.3 Cinnamon as my OS and in Virtualbox, Windows 10. Do you have the installation disc for Windows? My recommendation is to have as much RAM as possible. You probably can install your copy of Windows in Virtualbox. Should I install VirtualBox? Can I then use the copy of windows 10 that I have never activated? I tried to install Canon Digital Photo Professional using Wine, but it did not work. I have done some research and Lightroom seems to be miles better than other Linux based, open source, software. Now taking up photography, and particularity interested in taking RAW pic, need to have the necessary software. I can live with libreOffice without the need for MS Office. I installed Linux Mint as a fresh installation, no partitions. When I got my laptop 2 years ago it had windows 10 preinstalled but never activated. I enjoy using Linux and never thought I would need a bad OS like Windows again - until now! ![]() Now that you have imported your photos, go to Tools->Find Duplicates from the file menu.I installed Linux Mint about 2 years ago. Then it creates a SQLite database and then imports the images. When you start digiKam for the first time, it asks for the location of your image collection. Install digikam from the software center Step 2 It is a popular application and you should be able to install it from the software center or using the package manager of your distribution. Step 1įirst thing first, install digiKam. Let me show you how you can use this tool for finding duplicate photos and if you feel like it, remove the duplicate ones. It is primarily aimed at photographers but you do not need to be a professional camera person for using it. Find and remove duplicate photos with digiKamĭigiKam is a free and open source utility for managing photo collections. Here’s what I did to find the duplicate photos and remove thm. I came across this issue while going through my father-in-law’s photo collection. It is annoying, cluttered and takes extra space unnecessarily. Now you back up the images and you have two copies of the photos from the gallery and WhatsApp. You click photos on camera, send it through WhatsApp. Clicked too many similar photos? Have saved the same photo in different folders? I know that feel.
